Healthy pets

If you’re like most dog owners, you want what’s best for your furry friend. That’s why I’ve put together this list of 7 non-toxic alternatives for your dog. From food to water to bedding, I’ve got you covered!

As a dog owner, it’s important to do everything you can to keep your furry friend healthy and happy. However, this is not intended to replace the professional advice of your veterinarian. This information is not meant to be used as a substitute for veterinary care. If you have any concerns about your dog’s health, please contact your dog’s veterinarian.

With that being said, here are some things that you can change to help protect your best friend.

Feed them high-quality dog food

Dr. Harvey's dog food

There are many benefits to feeding your dog a really good dog food. Look for dog food that is made with high-quality ingredients that are free from synthetic pesticides, growth hormones, and other harmful chemicals. This can be better for your dog’s health in the long run. When it comes to choosing dog food, make sure to read the label carefully to ensure that you’re getting a product that meets your dog’s needs. This is a great way to give your furry friend the nutritious meal they deserve.

My dog (Mr. Rocky Balboa) has kidney issues so I know that he can only get a certain amount of protein a day. I switched to Dr. Harvey’s Dog Food and it has made such an improvement for him. There are different formulations so ask your vet which is right for your dog. You just add water to the food and then some kind of protein on top. Super easy to make!

Dr. Harvey’s can be a bit more expensive, especially if you have a larger dog. But, whatever your budget, there are healthy dog foods out there.

Filter your dogs water

As a dog owner, you want to make sure your furry friend has access to clean, fresh water at all times.

Unfortunately, tap water can contain harmful contaminants that can make your dog sick. That’s why filtration is so important. Filtered water will remove impurities and give your dog the safe, clean water he needs to stay healthy.

There are several different filtration systems available, so you can choose the one that best meets your needs.

There are different ways to find out what is in your water:

If you have a well, you can have the water tested. Check for places in your area that will do this. I believe that most home inspectors can do this as well.

If you have public water, search online for your municipalities water quality report. By law they need to make this public. Once you know what needs to be filtered out, then by the appropriate filter.

A good filtration system will make a big difference in your dog’s health, so make sure to choose one that will provide the cleanest water possible. This goes for your drinking water as well!

Use non-toxic dog bowls

Unfortunately, many dog bowls are made of materials that can contain harmful chemicals. Bowls made of plastic, for example, may release toxins into the food or water that your dog consumes. Bowls made of metal may also pose a risk, as some metals can leach into food or water.

To protect your dog’s health, it’s best to choose a dog bowl made of safe, non-toxic materials. Stainless steel bowls are a good option, as they’re durable and easy to clean. Plus, they don’t harbor the same bacteria as other bowls. Ceramic bowls are also safe for dogs, but they’re more likely to break if dropped. Glass bowls are another safe choice, but they’re not as durable as stainless steel.

Whichever type of bowl you choose, make sure it’s labeled “non-toxic” to ensure your dog’s safety.

Get them some non-toxic dog toys

Dogs love to chew, but not all dog toys are created equal.

When choosing chew toys for your dog, it’s important to avoid anything that contains toxic chemicals or materials. Instead, opt for dog toys made from natural materials like 100% natural rubber, cotton or wool. These materials are safe for your dog to chew on, and they won’t cause any damage to their teeth or gums.

There are a variety of chew toys available on the market, so take some time to find the perfect one for your dog. The best way to do this is the “smell test”. If the toy has a strong plastic or chemical smell to it, get rid of it.

With a little bit of research, you can find the perfect toy that will keep your dog happy and healthy.

Buy them a non-toxic bed

When it comes to dog beds, there are a lot of options on the market. From high-end dog beds that coordinate with your home décor to simple mats that can be thrown in the washing machine, there is something for every pet owner.

However, with so many choices available, it can be hard to know which bed is best for your dog. One important factor to consider is the materials used in the bed. Many dog beds are made with synthetic materials that may contain harmful chemicals. If you are looking for a dog bed that is safe for your dog, be sure to choose one made with non-toxic materials.

Also, be sure to use non-toxic detergent when washing their beds or blankets. Check out my shop page for safer alternatives. You can also try making your own laundry detergent as well.

There are a variety of non-toxic dog beds available, so you can find one that fits both your dog’s needs and your budget.

Use a non-toxic dog shampoo

Many dog shampoos on the market today contain harsh chemicals that can be harmful to your dog’s skin. These chemicals can strip away the natural oils that protect your dog’s skin, leaving it dry and irritated. They can also be absorbed into your dog’s bloodstream, causing health problems.

To keep your dog healthy and safe, choose a shampoo that is made from natural, non-toxic ingredients. There are many dog shampoos on the market that are made from gentle, plant-based ingredients that are safe for your dog’s skin and coat. These shampoos will clean your dog’s fur without stripping away the natural oils that protect their skin. They are also less likely to cause irritation or other skin problems.

I use Dr. Harvey’s Herbal Shampoo. It works well to get Rocky clean and smelling good. And, if you go to a groomer, bring it with you. They won’t mind if you want to use a specific shampoo other than what they use.

Don’t use pesticides around your home

Pesticides are commonly used around homes to kill insects, rodents, and other pests. However, these chemicals can also be harmful to pets, particularly dogs.

Many dog shampoos contain pesticides that are designed to kill fleas and ticks. While these products may be effective at controlling parasites, they can also cause skin irritation and other health problems in dogs.

In addition, dogs can be exposed to pesticides used in the yard or on the sidewalk. These chemicals can be absorbed through the skin or ingested when a dog licks its paws. As a result, it is important to use dog-friendly pest control methods around your home to protect your pet.

There was a study done by Tufts School of Veterinary Medicine that found that glyphosate, a common weed killer, raised the risk of lymphoma in dogs by 70%! To kill weeds around your home, use a mixture of salt and vinegar, put it in a spray bottle and spray any weeds. This is a safer alternative.
